A Creative Approach Podcast

Toward the end of 2018, I was interviewed by Karen Poirier-Brode for A Creative Approach Podcast. We talked about life and how it led me to where I am at in my artistic journey. Here’s the link to the page where she highlighted what stood out to her in our conversation –

New Gelatos Colors – Iridescent II

There’s a dozen new colors of Gelatos that Faber-Castell released at Creativation 2019 – the colors are iridescent, named after gem stones and beautiful as ever.

I have loved the first set of Iridescents which were more intense colors and were named after celestial elements. I have only just started using the new set and looking forward to creating projects with them to share with y’all!

Blog Hop: From the Potting Shade

Get a FREE GIFT and be the first to know by signing up for my email newsletter Studio Scoop by clicking here!

Hi everyone, WELCOME to the blog hop! If you are coming from Mae Nazareth’s blog, you are in the right place. I am sharing a tag I created for Tim with his Sizzix dies for Creativation 2019.

Everything I did on this tag can be summed up in the following 4 steps – die-cutting the shapes, painting them and the tag, gluing everything down and doodling to finish.

What I think might be helpful though is the exact list of supplies I used, so here it is with all the details –

Your next stop on this hop is Paula Cheney‘s blog.

Enjoy the projects and if you want to win a prize, leave a comment on each blog before February 9th at midnight PST and the lovely Richele Christensen will pick 3 winners and announce them on February 10th.

A Favorite Set of White India Ink Pens

Finding a true white pen has been quite the journey for me. I have tried many pens that promised ‘white’ output, but was disappointed to see that they only turned the base color of my paper into a dull pastel. I even tried the Wite-out pen once out of desperation. I have tried Sharpie, Posca and other paint pens with better results. I liked the Signo Uniball and Sakura White Gelly Roll except for when the ink flow wasn’t steady and it was halt and go. I’m hoping that the new set of White Lettering pens that come in a big bold, 1.5 bullet, chisel and brush tips from Faber-Castell will be the answer to my prayers. I have loved them so far. They didn’t dull down. Definitely my favorite from Creativation 2019!

I’ll also be sharing photos from the show/event in my newsletter Studio Scoop. If you are not a subscriber yet, sign up here.

1 Creative New Year Resolution + 5 Motivators to KEEP it!

Supplies –

The feeling of a fresh start at the beginning of a new year has us making resolutions to make changes in our lives for the better – be it giving up a habit that’s keeping us from our desired goal or building one that nudges us in the right direction little by little.

One of my resolutions this year is to use more of what I already have.

I am approaching it by going through my art supplies, sorting them in categories and taking inventory.

It’s a mixed feeling – excitement when I find something I had completely forgotten about and guilt that I had not yet used it even once so far.

I am doing this one box a day and I am seriously surprised to see that so much of the bulk I had been holding on to is just empty packaging that I simply never took a little time to discard!!!
Yes, the recycle bin has been packed with my flattened boxes the last couple of weeks.

And I am breathing happy in the space that this has opened up and beaming at the new possibilities!

To make my resolution fun to stick to (because we all know that I’ll not do it if it gets boring!), I have connected it with my hand-lettering practice as you can see in the image above.

This way I am –

  • Improving my hand-lettering
  • Getting organized
  • Saving time and sanity by not having to rummage through everything for forever to find ONE thing!
  • Spending wisely by not buying duplicates of what I already have so I can get new things when I want
  • Finding bliss in knowing I am using and enjoying what I have – this feeling is PRICELESS, I tell ya!

Please share your 2019 resolutions and any tips on keeping them throughout the year! You can do so by leaving me a comment to this post.

On a completely different note…

Joining a year-long self-paced art course, like Life Book or Wanderlust, sure would be a FUN way to use up some of your art supplies this year, don’t you think?

Because, let’s face it, getting more art supplies IS NOT THE SAME AS making more art.

Give Yourself the Gift of Creativity in 2019

Another Holiday season almost wrapped up, a new year ahead of us – maybe like me, you too need to unwind and balance your to-do list with your own needs at this point. A large part of my own self-care is to spend some quality time with myself, creating. It helps me recharge and repeat my family’s hectic schedule each day.

At first, I used to feel guilty and selfish, but over time I have realized that making time for art has improved the quality of my life, relationships and general sense of wellbeing to a great extent. I wish to continue to make time for myself and my art in 2019 and I encourage that you do the same. You deserve it!

And if you wish to give yourself this gift of creativity and are wondering about where to start, you might benefit from the structure and inspiration of a year-long, self-paced art course and its supportive community. I hope you will join me on one or both of these art-ventures – Life Book and Wanderlust!

Both of these courses have early bird discounts that expire on 31 December. So, sign up now and start 2019 with a creative boost!
